We are Carl & Patty Dobbins, both transplants to The West Central
Florida coastline from South Jersey where we both grew up…. Well we did even if Patty says I haven’t grown up yet. I spent
35 years in the insurance industry selling my agency in NJ to “retire” here. No such doing. I continued my love of helping
people by working with select clients here in Florida and never advertised once. I no longer sell insurance. Now my full time
hobby is owning and running a bike shop. Life is great when you can treat your JOB like a hobby. It is like getting paid
money to PLAY!!! What kid wouldn’t love that. Sun West Cyclery was only nine months old when we bought it. Our son Chris
was a technician there and was already familiar with the operation and suggested we take a look at the business when the former
owner decided he wanted to sell. One of the reasons we moved to Palm Harbor in the first place was the Pinellas trail, so
having the opportunity to own a bicycle shop on it was something too good not to check out. Seeing the potential of an already
successful bike shop also made our investment decision easier. We proudly advertise that we are a Family Bicycle Shop.
We believe that the area needed a place that anyone could take their bike and have someone who really cares pay attention
to their questions and concerns and correct the problem no matter how much time or work it took. This was the final and most
important part of our decision. We are proud we purchased the shop and are very happy serving our customers. I am the
guy who you will normally see when you come in. Patty is the behind the scene person, handling the books (ugh), checking
inventory and stock, baby sitting grand-children, cooking dinner and generally the jack of all trades. Shasta is the shop
dog who is always a step behind Patty when they are in. Our children say we treat Shasta better than we did them when they
were growing up. No Comment. Sean, our oldest comes in to help with our “social responsibility projects” when he can
and is our web designer and is the guy who designed our logo you see here and there. His oldest son, our first grandson,
Gabe, named the little guy on the bike “Bob”. So be it. We are very proud about what owning Sun West Cyclery has been
able to let us give back to the community, the very large community, so please spend a minute and click on the next link.
